THERE is a mystery concerning why a boater fell into a canal in the middle of the night and subsequently died.

A 36 years old boater was rescued from the Caldon Canal at Etruria in the middle of the night after the alarm was raised by a crew member, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Resuscitated

It is believed he fell from the narrowboat into the waterway, with fire-fighters pulling him out of the water, and was resuscitated by paramedics.

He was rushed to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire, but did not recover, dying some 12 hours later.
