You can stop the harassment

Published: Wednesday, 09 July 2014

YOU have published a few articles recently about people being harassed by CaRT enforcement and recently recommended keeping a log of the movements a boat makes, but you should be aware that a logging system exists for just that purpose and is being used on the canals, writes John Quinlan.

Already being used

It's existence is known to CaRT as I specifically informed them as to it's existence and the fact that people are already using it.

It uses GPS technology, the same as CaRT's data loggers, it's just that the users can log every time they move. Naturally if the log is compared to the normally, rather sparser logging points that CaRT take, then it is CaRT's data that will prove the authenticity of the boaters log.

Record a year's movements

The system can, almost instantly, show a map of recent movements, a list of dated movements, or a fully detailed email giving chapter and verse of the boaters movements for up to a year.

The system is called CruisingLog, details can be found at www.gpslogs.com and it can be purchased from Google Play for the price of a pint. It may help some of the people who write to you.

Insurance against Section 8

I am informing you about this only and do not expect publication of this email as it can be construed as advertising. It is however the cheapest insurance against a Section 8 (provided you do cruise within the law).

I wrote it to protect myself as my cruising pattern could well be seen by CaRT as contentious due to their lack of sightings of my boat.
