Would get more volunteers

WITH the failure to get enough volunteers, one prospective volunteer made a suggestion to the then British Waterways about using his boat as accommodation, but he thinks his suggestion was not understood.

I read the article about shortages of volunteers, I'm not especially surprised. I did point out to British Waterways several months ago that some people like me live many miles from a canal and as such can not afford travel costs to a possible volunteer site one or two etc days a week for weeks and weeks, writes Chris Love.

Near to site

What I could do however is help for a block of time and move my boat to near to the site to use as accommodation etc. and thus avoid travel costs.

I am unsure if British Waterway even understood the reason for my suggestion to have more flexible ways (blocks of time) to help, they just pointed out that I could help in some ways from home. I would much prefer to be out and about so this suggestion was not one I wished to do
