Better solution to bridges

THERE was rightly criticism of the ugly constructions that were added to the tail bridges of a number of locks on the Staffs & Worcs following a well-known case and in response to perceived Health and Safety concerns. writes Mike Todd.

When we travelled down from Autherley a couple of weeks ago we noticed that some of the temporary additions have now been replaced by a more permanent solution although others are still on-going.

Congratulated

If we accept that these are needed—and I share the doubts about the case—then I think that the technical people involved need to be congratulated for coming up with a solution that is harmonious, unobtrusive and, I guess, relatively cost effective. For once let's share some (relatively) good news!
