New canal festival

AGAINST the trend of canal festivals closing, Burnley is presenting its new canal festival in early September.

The two day festival is on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th September, and will take place on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal around the Weavers Triangle, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Outdoor cinema

The festival is to celebrate the role that the waterway plays, and has played, in the town, with it starting off with showings of various waterway themed films in an outdoor cinema.

Other events will include live music and stalls, with of course many boats expected for the event, including the historic Kennet that has been restored by the Leeds & Liverpool Canal Society.

Boat glow

The show will end with a ‘Boat Glow' that will feature decorated canal boats, accompanied by a firework display.

The Festival is part of the Burnley Canal Communities Project, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Canal & River Trust and Burnley Borough Council.
