THE Canal & River Trust (CART) is wanting volunteering experts for its new Volunteering Advisory Group.

It wants to encourage more people from a range of backgrounds and communities to get involved with their local waterway, and to help with this the Trust is establishing a new Volunteering Advisory Group.

The group will be chaired by Dr Justin Davis Smith CBE, Chief Executive of Volunteering England, who explains:

"We are currently looking for people who have extensive experience in establishing and leading volunteering groups in a waterways setting to get involved with the new Volunteering Advisory Group. This is a very exciting opportunity to work at a strategic level to help the Canal & River Trust engage with waterside communities and to help build a sustainable model for community involvement.

"The new group will bring together experts from both the volunteering and waterways sectors to help develop the volunteering strategy and best practice in the process of managing volunteers as well as giving the Trust's management an insight into the implications of new policies on particular issues that are relevant to volunteers."
