EVERY few days now comes news of towpath attacks, with another, this time on the Bridgewater Canal, again by a gang of yobs.

This time is was very serious with the man being left with a broken nose, fractured eye socket and bruising where he had been kicked.

The attack took place in the evening around 10pm on the towpath of the waterway in Monton, Eccles, with the 47 years old man walking alone, and standing no chance against the mob.

An ambulance was called and he was taken to hospital for treatment and kept in overnight.

Of the attack, Detective Constable Danielle McCafferty, of Salford CID, stated:

"This was an unprovoked attack on a man who was making his way home after a night out. It was a cowardly assault and I'd urge anyone who saw anybody hanging round that part of the canal before or after the attack to contact us."
