Grand Union restrictions

IT WAS David Collins who reported on the dire state of Daventry Reservoir, that caused the closure of the Northampton Arm of the Grand Union Canal, but now he tells it is 'pretty full'.

He maintains that by the time this is read, it will be overflowing into the Nene. So asks if British Waterways will 'have the wit to cancel all restrictions on the Grand Union'? Adding:

"You know it makes sense, so you can bet that by the the time they've set up a committee to decide that, another drought will have begun."

Tring summit

However the reservoir on the Tring summit pound has a long way to go, another contributor told us this morning, and that there are only a few boats moving on the pound, with the level still down, but he met a volunteer, revealing:

"Spotted my first British Waterway volunteer here yesterday. Giving lock usage advice to boaters who I overheard had travelled from Liverpool and were heading for the Queen's Jubilee in London!"

"They were too polite to tell him they could probably manage. Smart logo sweatshirt and buoyancy aid though."
