Hope for Middlewich Narrowboats

THOUGH Middlewich Narrowboats was one of the hire company's hit by the boating recession, and went into liquidation, it has been rescued.

It is Royal Air Force serviceman Greg Williams, a critical care nurse in the service's Air Support Team who is the new owner of the boat hire company, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Holiday

Greg had an interest in the boats, as he and his friends had a holiday on a Middlewich boat back in 1989, and later with his wife Sue and two boys, cruising the waterways.

He tells that the company had been run down and the boats rather shabby, but he is spending money in fitting-out new galleys and making other improvements to the fleet ready for the coming season.  The Middlewich boat Holly, pictured, was the one that was stolen by a hirer who failed to return it, but was recovered after publicity in narrowboatworld.

Afghanistan and Iraq

Greg is still a serving airman, with terms in Afghanistan and Iraq, but intends to combine the operation of the hire fleet with his service commitments until he leaves the Royal Air Force.

Until then, it will be his wife Sue who will help run the business.
