Waste facilities locked
WASTE facilities at Sawley Marina, including recycling and Elson areas have been locked to prevent non-British Waterways Marinas Ltd customers using them.
This action has been taken to avoid the increasing costs of disposal of waste which is paid for through the mooring fees, acc0rding to the information to its boaters.
Concerned
When this notice appeared on BWML's website given the lack of facilities on the rivers Soar and Trent in this area, and on the Grand Union Canal Leicester Line, I was obviously concerned, writes Pam Pickett.
I have however spoken to John at Sawley Marina. John tells me that facilities are still available at Sawley Lock, and furthermore, that provided boaters are using Sawley Marina for pump-outs etc. i.e.—are paying customers rather than just visiting to dispose of waste, then elsan and waste disposal, albeit at the discretion of management, will remain available to them.
It is those who lack disposal facilities on their own moorings who visit purely to dispose of waste that Sawley Marina seeks to deter.
