THE Volunteers who have worked on the Kennet & Avon doing unpaid work have been rewarded with a free boat trip on the canal.
It has been estimated that the volunteers contributed around £100,000 worth of unpaid work on maintenance of the waterway over the past months, as well as acting as lock keepers.
Operated by the Trust
They were taken for a trip along the Kennet & Avon Canal in the Barbara McLellan, that is operated by the Kennet and Avon Canal Trust.
The leader of the volunteers, Rob Labus, pointed out that volunteering offers many different opportunities to put something back into the local community, and that they have worked on many interesting projects, gaining new skills and meeting people.
