Two teenagers drown in canal

TWO teenagers have been found drowned in the Birmingham Level Main Line Canal near Brasshouse Bridge at Smethwick.

It was around 7pm last night (Wednesday) that the emergency services were called to the scene after two people were seen in the canal, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Pronounced dead

West Midlands Ambulance Service personnel tried resuscitation as they were rushed to hospital, but the two were pronounced dead.

It was discovered that they were two teenagers, an 18 years old man and a 17 years old girl, but there is no intimation how they came to be in the water. The police are trying to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and investigating the sequence of events leading up to the deaths.

The two teenagers are local, and their families have been informed and are receiving support.
