Email: Effective notice

I was pleased to learn that Brian [Holmes] had a trouble free passage on the Trent & Mersey Canal through the IWA Festival site at Burton-on-Trent at the end of July.

The 'dire warnings' (aka as a navigation restriction notice), which we (IWA) and British Waterways issued jointly were obviously effective in reducing people's expectations, and undoubtedly encouraged some less experienced boaters to use an alternative route.

Together with the passing places and control by our harbour masters this will have helped Brian to have a satisfactory passage.

In designing and operating the moorings for the Festival we were very conscious that the Trent & Mersey Canal is one of the network's busiest routes, not least due to a number of new large marinas, so I'm very pleased that our efforts seem to have paid off.
