Club to lose its wharf

SELLING off Cropredy Wharf on the Oxford Canal will mean that the Banbury & District Canoe Club will loose its wharf, unless the members can find British Waterway's asking price of £130,000.

BW announced the sale of various assets, including the wharf where the club has been based for the past 23 years.

Far from target

The club itself has raised just under £20,000 through fundraising events, with various other grants, but is still far from its target to purchase the wharf.

The club has created a reputation across the country by winning second place last year for the 2010 BCU Club of the Year awards, and is well known in the championships, catering for all ages, with its youngest member seven years old and its oldest 70.

Many are offering support including New Zealand's well known profile white-water kayaker, Ben Brown.
