Swing bridge works add to chaos

IT IS at present virtual gridlock in Doncaster as three separate road works are in progress, helped by British Waterways closing an 'escape' route over the Sheffield & South Yorkshire Navigation.

Road users say it is the worst congestion ever in the town, being described as a drivers' hell after three separate road works were started, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Complaining

Even the town councillors who permitted the road works are complaining with one, Cliff Hampson remarking it now takes over an hour to do a former 20 minutes journey.

But what is upsetting many is that British Waterways have also closed the road at Barnby Dun by the refurbishment of the canal swing bridge, which could have been used as an 'escape' route.

But of course, British Waterways has no alternative but to do the work in the maintenance season.
