Another falls through the ice

Another man has been found dead in a waterway after falling through the ice on the Erewash Canal.

The body of a man was recovered from the broken ice on the Erewash Canal at Long Eaton, after failing to return home after taking his dog for a walk along the towpath.

Tragic accident

Detective Inspector Mark Argyle, investigating the incident explained:

"It does appear to be a tragic accident in which the man has fallen into the canal and died."

Dog waiting

When it was realised he was long overdue home, his relatives searched the towpath where he usually walked, and found his body in the canal, and his dog waiting by him on the towpath.

As the dog was reported as being dry, it was realised that he had not gone onto the ice to rescue it, but had either slipped on the towpath and fallen in or actually walked on the ice.
