Dogs hung on canal bridge

A WOMAN received a terrible shock when she discovered two dogs hung by their necks from Fairfield Bridge 46 on the Ashby Canal.

She was driving over the bridge but was halted by a rope stretched across, and to her horror found at each end of the rope was a dog with the rope around its neck, hung over each parapet, Alan Tilbury reports.

Dangling over the waterway

The two lurchers were dangling over the waterway, both of course dead.

The RSPCA and the police are now involved, with RSPCA Inspector, Sheona Morley stating:

"It must have been absolutely awful for the lady who discovered them. She was driving along the road but found her path blocked by the rope across the carriageway.
"When she got out to have a closer look, she was disgusted to see the bodies of the dogs. There is absolutely no excuse to treat any animal in such a barbaric way."

A year old

The two dogs were estimated at being a year old, a  male and a female, with both wearing leather collars, but of course no identification tags and they were not micro-chipped.

Local villagers are shocked at the discovery of such despicable action, wondering at the mentality of anyone doing such a thing, and the feeling is that the police are able to discover the culprits.

Unbelievable

Local councillor Kevin Morrell exclaimed:

"This is absolutely awful. I find it unbelievable that people could do this sort of thing to animals. Children could have discovered this, which would have been absolutely horrific. As a dog lover, I am absolutely horrified and disgusted.
