A NEW boat, The Three Shires, arrived at the Grantham Canal on the 28th April, and  was gently lowered into the water.

Invited guests then boarded the boat for its very first trip along the restored section of the Grantham  Canal from Denton to Woolsthorpe.

The costs of the boat were sponsored by major donations from Tony Wilkinson, Chairman of the Grantham Canal Partnership, and the Lincolnshire Waterways Partnership. Other individuals responded to a website appeal raising over £5,000 towards the costs of transport and crane hire and equipping of the boat.

Once training of skippers has been completed The Three Shires will be available for charter by parties of up to 10 persons on the four mile top length of the canal where two new landing stages are to be constructed and the wharf at Harlaxton is to be completely rebuilt.

After The Three Shires entered the water, Chairman of the Grantham Canal Society, Mike Stone received a donation of a cheque for £1,000 from Brian White, Chairman of Notts & Derby Branch IWA.
