FIREFIGHTERS WERE CALLED in the early morning of Sunday to a boat fire.

And discovered a narrowboat with its interior on fire. Janet Friend reports.

The boat was moored between Cow Lane Winding Hole and the castle walls on the Shropshire Union Canal.

Well alight

Firefighters found the interior of the narrowboat well alight and used breathing apparatus and a water jet to douse the fire.

As the boat had become loose from its moorings, the fire people then tied it safely to rings.

It is understood that the interior was completely gutted.

The boater escaped his boat, realising it was on fire so did not suffer any burns.
