THE DEWSBURY ARM off the Calder & Hebble Navigation will be effected by the replacement of a railway bridge.

The Network Rail bridge has reached the end of its serviceable life, and requires replacing.
Navigation will be effected by a substantial crash deck that will need to be installed across the full width of the canal beneath the bridge, to allow the removal of the existing bridge deck, whilst work is being carried out.
Effect on navigation not known
As yet it is not known how the work will effect navigation on the Dewsbury Arm, as the bridge is near its entrance off the Aire & Calder Navigation.
But are told that passage may be available at key stages of the works, including during bridge deck removal activities when temporary works can be adjusted to allow access, with every effort will be made to 'minimise the duration of the closure'.
Not only are boats moored along the arm, but there is a marina with boats that will be affected.
