A COLLAPSED WALL HAS CLOSED both the Calder & Hebble Navigation and Rochdale Canal.
From immediate effect, Keith Gudgin reports.
Closing both waterways
The collapsed wall is at Edward Road Bridge 3 and effects Lock 1 of the Rochdale Canal and Salterhebble Lock 1 of the Calder & Hebble Navigation closing both waterways.
This occurred yesterday, Wednesday 15th July
At present Canal & River Trust, do not have sufficient information to determine whether it is safe for boats to pass through this section of the navigation.
For safety
So for the safety of boaters, colleagues and volunteers, Canal & River Trust has taken the decision to close the navigation until further assessments can be completed.
A structural inspection of the collapsed wall has been arranged for today, and the findings from this inspection will help the trust to understand the extent of the damage and determine the safest way forward.
