THE KENNET & AVON CANAL and the Leeds & Liverpool Canal have both been closed through lack of water.
With one caused by an excessive leak, Keith Gudgin reports.
This is the Kennet & Avon Canal that is closed from Sheffield Lock 101 to Garston Lock 102.
With the trust telling that due to excessive leakage at Garston lock the lock is inoperable. With engineers and contractors working towards a solution.
As yet there is no intimation when that can be attended to.
Leeds & Liverpool Canal
Bank Newton Top Lock 41 to Holme Bridge Lock 30 are closed. Once again this is closed through lack of water
With the trust telling that after monitoring this section, water levels are very low, and it has therefore been necessary to suspend navigation.
To ensure this the lock gates have been secured with padlocks to help prevent further water loss.
This measure could allow water levels to recover, with a team monitoring the situation.
LATEST Water levels in this section of the canal have returned to safe operating conditions.
