THE CRANE BY THE SIDE OF the Kennet & Avon Canal in Newbury is to be refurbished.
Completed in summer
It is expected to be completed and be reinstalled in the summer.
This is part of the £420,000 to complete Newbury's new Peace Garden at the wharf. The crane was first installed during the 1850s or 1860s.
Most of the project was completed last year, but during construction structural issues were found with the south bank of the waterway.
This means that piling will have to be undertaken alongside other improvements.
Crucial
West Berkshire District Council told that urgent works were crucial and would be better for walking and cycling along the waterfront.
Funding for the project has been provided by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Image shows the crane and Newbury trip boat.
