KILNHURST FLOOD LOCK on the Sheffield & South Yorkshire Navigation was closed by a faulty sluice at the end of October.
It was closed overnight and engineers notified to attend and repair, Keith Gudgin reports.
Comes November and the engineers discover that they are unable to repair the sluice, and so the navigation remains closed.
But now vandals are blamed, as we are now told that the initial issue with the sluice has been 'compounded by vandalism to the control pedestal, which has made the lock inoperable'.
Still not repaired
So it is still not repaired we are now told, but the engineers are aware of the situation and will be attending to assess the damage and carry out the necessary repairs.
But surely the engineers had already assessed the lock the first time but their second visit strangely discovered it was vandals!
The lock will remain closed until it is safe to reopen and fully functional, tells the trust.
