AS THE KNOWLE LOCKS Customer Service Facility does not meet the governments Simpler Recycling legislation it will close on the 10th November.
Separate facilities
This legislation means that all refuse sites are required to provide separate facilities for recycling and general waste. Unfortunately, it has not been possible to upgrade the Customer Service Facility refuse site at Knowle Locks to meet these new requirements, Keith Gudgin reports.
The Canal & River Trust tells it is constrained by limited space within the existing bin compound, and due to weight restrictions on the access road, the site can only be serviced by the Customer Operations Team. These operational challenges, combined with the introduction of the new legislation, mean that the refuse site at Knowle Locks will close.
A new bin compound
However, a new bin compound has been established at Henwood, approximately three miles north of Knowle Locks.
This facility is located on the offside within a secure Canal & River Trust yard and is accessible by boat only. A designated mooring point has been provided, and signage installed to guide users to the new location.
