VTHE VINTAGE STEAM SHIP Daniel Adamson 'Danny' is facing a significant financial loss after being forced to cancel cruises and a booking.

This was caused by the ship being marooned on the Weaver due to the closure of Weston Marsh Lock preventing passage, Janet Friend reports.

Danial AdamsonProvides access

The lock on the Weaver provides access to the Manchester Ship Canal and the Mersey that 'Danny' needed to get to for its appointments, but was closed.

Canal & River Trust closed the lock on Friday, 12th September, blaming an electrical fault, but with no indication of reopening.

It did suggest 'alternatives', but no information given as the only alternative is the Anderton Boat Lift that only takes narrowboats! And has been out of action all year.

All events cancelled

A spokesman Daniel Adamson Preservation Society explained:

"We therefore had to cancel our trip to Liverpool on Sunday, 14th September and all the events we had planned over the next few weeks including those booked during the Labour Party conference, letting passengers and customers down while incurring significant financial loss."

Meanwhile the team are looking to arrange a programme of events for the festive period whilst 'Danny' is moored at Sutton Weaver over the Christmas period.
