Another 'leak' on the Macclesfield Canal

ANOTHER LEAK HAS appeared on the Macclesfield Canal—this making three in all!

Near junction

This time it is between Bullocks Bridge 13 and Smiths Bridge 14 at Higher Poynton near the junction with the Peak Forest Canal, Keith Gudgin reports..

MaccBreach2At the moment Canal & River Trust tell that the towpath is closed at the site of the leak, it causing damage where the water is escaping, with the navigation at present still open.

But boaters are asked to approach the area with care due to the fluctuation in the water level caused by the leak.

Into full blown breach

The first of the three leaks happened in late March (pictured) that turned into a full blown breach.

Then there was a further leak closing the waterway at Bollington in late May. What the present leak will eventually become, is obviously not known.
