More canals closed owing to lack of water
TWO MORE CANALS were closed over the weekend through lack of water.
And in reporting, Keith Gudgin remarks that it is not looking good for the beginning of the season is it?
The entire Pocklington Canal is closed between Top Lock 1 and Cottingwith Lock 9 due to lack of water.
Any boats on the waterway are obviously stuck as Cottingwith Lock is its connection with the Derwent.
Grand Union Canal
The Grand Union was also closed at Marsworth Junction over the weekend from Lock 40 to Lock 45 through lack of water.
With boaters prevented from using the pounds to moor as the receding water levels could leave them grounded.
And a double whammy, as Lock 44 on the Grand Union at the junction is also closed for repair and told that it will remain so until further notice.
Certainly not looking good with so many waterways closed for the start of the season on Friday.
At least Micklethwaite Swing Bridge and Dock Lane Swing Bridge on the Leeds & Liverpool have been repaired, so just one other swing bridge not working at present.
