Boats grounding on the Trent

THE LACK OF RAINFALL together with silt is causing narrowboats to ground on the Trent.
This is taking place when approaching Cromwell Lock 15 on the river, Keith Gudgin reports.
This was happening to boats yesterday, Thursday, that were struggling to proceed, with Canal & River Trust telling that it believes this is due to silt building up combined with low water levels.
Dredging
The trust promises that dredging will be undertaken to improve this situation as soon as the water levels return to normal.
Cromwell Lock is the start of the tidal Trent so the grounding must be above the lock, that is non tidal.
