Boaters have no issues with trees being cut down
None of the actual residents on the towpath have any issues whatsoever with the work that CRT have done, writes Helen McGreger.
We understand that the trees have to be maintained and if necessary cut down, indeed we have been asking for this to happen for some years.
Some of the trees in question are dead, others are growing into the bank of the canal and could cause significant damage. CRT have kept us informed constantly about the much needed work they are going to do and we are grateful for them for maintaining this beautiful towpath in the centre of Oxford.
A tree that had not been maintained fell on a boat during a storm a few years ago and caused significant damage to a boat that was then in danger of sinking until the tree was removed.
That article is very misleading as it implies that there is agreement with the individual who contacted the Oxford Mail when there is no such agreement from the people who are actually residents (and who pay a good deal of money to be so).
The person who sent the complaint to the Oxford Mail is not a resident of the towpath.
