Petition to save Mon & Brec reaches over 10,000 signatures
THE SENEDD PETITION to save Mon & Brec reached over 10,000 signatures this morning, Wednesday.
This is to save the waterway running dry owing to the threat of cutting-of water from the Usk, Janet Friend reports.
Fed back
Even though the water taken is fed back into the river further downstream.
The Senedd petition calling for the Welsh Government to save the canal being at risk of running dry has reached over 10,000 signatures.
Changes to the law mean that most exemptions from water abstraction licensing have now been removed.
Canal and River Trust Wales applied for abstraction licences from Natural Resources Wales.
Can ill afford
But though the Welsh Government sponsored body granted the licences, they included conditions that place strict limitations on the water that can be drawn from the Usk and wanted £1million, that the trust can ill afford.
Though this government is concerned about wildlife, the drying-up of the canal in a hot summer would mean its entire demise.
