New Willow Tree Tea Room re-opened at Mercia
THIS MONDAY saw the re-opening of the new Willow Tree Room at Mercia Marina.
Though this is only a temporary move, it eventually going back as part of the new Promenade that is to be constructed.
Larger the previously
The new tea room is somewhat larger than previously, and situated by the actual marina gates with ample car parking. The move was very quick, with the new tea room being well prepared for the move.
It was a popular destination for walkers and cyclists, with walkers able to go over the bridge into the marina from the Trent & Mersey towpath and cyclists able to simply ride in from the roads
We often saw groups of both who had made it their meeting place The image shows it in it construction giving some idea of its size.
Promenade
Eventually, when the Promenade has been built the tea room will revert to being part of it.
Work is to start on the Promenade shortly that will be in addition to the existing Boardwalk and Piazza already in use.
It will be a luxury complex comprising 8,500 sq ft of retail and cafe/restaurant space and a limited number of two bedrooms and three bedrooms contemporary residential apartments with views over the 77 acres marina.
The building will showcase over-sailing roof lines and wooden cladding based on the ancient Japanese technique of 'Shou Sugi Ban' for wood preservation to mirror the beautiful natural landscape. The image is an artists' impression.
