New gates for Tinsley Flight
Published: Monday, 24 March 2025
BOTH THE TOP and bottom lock gates of the Tiinsley Flight on have been replaced over a 10 weeks period.
This was part of the 'winter works' on the Sheffield & South Yorkshire Canal.
With site supervisor, Antony License, telling that each set of lock gates has to be replaced around every 25 years.
Crane
The gates were fitted using a crane with a 217ft telescopic arm, with the locks first drained and the use of a 'coffer dam' to keep the work area clear of water.
The site supervisor told the work would ensure the canal remained "safe and operable for the passage of boats".
