New Severn Diglis Canal Walk named as the best

THE NEW DIGLIS Canal Walk has been named the best walk in the West Midlands by the Canal & River Trust.

It is at the junction with the Severn and the Worcester & Birmingham Canal, with Diglis Island along its route, reports Janet Friend.

DiglisIslandMark Miles, the trust's Visitor Service Manager explained:

"Up until the 1840s, the Severn was tidal up to Worcester, which caused real problems for trade as there were three months of the year where boats could not get up and down the river.

The Fish Pass, which reopened last week, welcomes visitors throughout the spring and summer for 20 minutes drop-in sessions to view the underwater gallery and watch over two dozen species fish using the pass to head upstream.

People can book the longer 90 minutes tour of Diglis Island or the 70 minutes walking tour."

Hatton Flight on the Grand Union at Warwick was also included in the list.
