AN EXHIBITION of photographs of the Wolverhampton canals is on display showing the various aspects of its waterways.

The photographer, Ian Hughes, has walked the towpaths of the waterways in and around Wolverhampton for six months, Janet Friend reports.

Old Main LineHis purpose was to create a collection of photographs to promote the towpaths of the waterways as a way to avoid traffic and its fumes, he remarking:

"We have an amazing resource in our extensive canal network in Wolverhampton that is vastly underused and most of it is stunning."

Over friendly

He  talked to people on the towpaths and had conversation with narrowboat crews, telling they are over friendly.

He added the exercise had kept his mind and body active and claimed he had successfully 'walked away' his type 2 Diabetes diagnosis.

His  photographs are featured in an exhibition at Wolverhampton Central Library that explores the history of the network, and the collection is open to view until 15th. Shown is Ian Hughes photograph of the Old Main Line Canal in January.
