We cruised the Leeds & Liverpool
I FULLY realise that Victor tells of long stoppages to warn us boaters, but I believe it gives the wrong impression, writes Paula Drew.
For though I have to agree with him, it has to be remembered that there are breakages that are done quickly by Canal & River Trust's own team, that I had the pleasure of meeting at a swing bridge on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal—yes, my partner and myself cruised it!
And it is this that prompted me to write, as we started at the five Locks and went straight through to the Bridgewater Canal, before that breached!
The trip along the Leeds & Liverpool was okay, with a little hiccup at that swing bridge for just two hours and another at Wigan flight, but that was by lack of water in last year's summer so wasn't at all bad.
We also did the Trent & Mersey Canal and had no problems at all, so by missing those long stoppages you can still cruise. You just have to keep your eyes on the stoppages that Keith in narrowboatworld at least tells us about.
There was one thing that was very noticeable though, there were few boats about, a fact that others we met also claimed.
