And still those bridges fail...
WHICH OF course means another swing bridge failure on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.
With no surprise it is Coxhead Swing Bridge 20, Keith Gudgin reports.
Cox on the rocks
Little wonder Victor called it 'Cox on the Rocks', with its all too often failures, and little wonder we are told by boaters of their being stuck by one failure or other.
And not forgetting that a narrowboat hire company gave up, after having to rescue both its clients and boats so many times, their being stuck at one stoppage or another.
This time it was on Saturday when it failed, with the reason/excuse being the adverse windy weather, and a team attending to assess and repair if possible.
Failures
Last year the Coxhead Swing Bridge failed on the 26th January, 11th and 26th of October, 15th of November, 26th December—five times in all, providing of course that all failures were reported.
Swing and lift bridges really suffer from the lack of maintenance for in June alone there were ten swing/lift bridge failures.
It really needs a reliable maintenance system as when British Waterways operated the waterways.
