Anderton Boat Lift closed for three weeks

IT WAS on Sunday 5th January that Anderton Boat Lift was closed due to a broken river gate.

This was discovered during a planned inspection undertaken in preparation for boats to use the lift on that day, Keith Gudgin reports.

But is is now discovered, upon further inspection, that it is both gates that are broken and 'teams are assessing repairs'.

Considering requirements

The trust is now considering the requirements for repair with specialist contractors, but of course whilst this is being undertaken and the work completed for the repair, the lift is closed. It is estimated that this will take until Friday (of course) 24th January.

During this time boats either on the Weaver waiting to get back on the Trent & Mersey, or those of the Trent & Mersey waiting to get back to their moorings on the Weaver will be stuck until the 24th. Our unusual picture was of the flutterfetti at its re-opening in 2002.
