Ripon Canal closed

A BROKEN sluice on a lock on the Ripon Canal has closed the waterway.

This is on Rhodesfield Lock,  Keith Gudgin reports.

Our being told that the top end sluice of the lock is out of action, meaning that it is impossible to fill the lock thus preventing entry into the lock for boats.

Above Ripon Marina

Luckily the lock is above the Ripon Marina, so boats will still be able to get to and from their moorings.

This is unlike a previous stoppage when a lock below the marina stopped all movement to and from moorings for many months

It was Oxclose Lock that was closed for six months from December 2021 then closed again later for more months in 2022 as the repair had not been properly completed, preventing all boat movement again for boats moored in Ripon Marina.
