Assisted passage through Marple Flight up to Christmas

Published: Thursday, 05 December 2024

THOUGH the stoppage is still in force on the Marple Flight, there will be assisted passages up to Christmas.

The Peak Forest Canal was closed on Friday 7th November due to a large hole appearing in a culvert at Lock 14, with the flight then closed, Keith Gudgin reports.

For safety reasons

Canal & River Trust engineers have inspected the hole after it was reported by a boater and closed the flight for safety reasons whilst inspections take place.

This closure will allow the engineers to insert barriers then lower the water level enabling them to take a closer look at the situation.

The assisted passages through Marple Flight up to Christmas are scheduled for Tuesday, 10th December and Tuesday, 17th December.

Should you wish to book on one of these passages, call the North West Customer Service team at 0303 0404 040.

Booking is required

Booking is required as there is a limit to the number of boats that can safely be assisted through the flight until repairs can be undertaken.

There is no notice of when this will be as the trust has its teams busy with its winter works.
