Temporary repair to allow boats through Marple Flight

Published: Thursday, 21 November 2024

A TEMPORARY repair is being made to the broken culvert on the Marple Flight to allow  waiting boats through the locks.

The broken culvert closed the flight at Lock 14 on the Peak Forest Canal on the 7th of November, Keith Gudgin reports.

The temporary repair next week, will allow the many waiting boats to pass through.

Other temporary fixes

But even then this broken culvert will cause problems as it will still require time to complete the work, so other temporary fixes will be made in the future to clear any waiting boats.

Canal & River Trust state that the teams are working this week to make the temporary repairs and plan to assist the first boats through the flight on Tuesday, 26th November, telling—Once this initial trial has been completed, we’ll review the process and look at arranging further passage dates for customers who have already been in touch.

Perhaps it would be wise for boaters to avoid the flight until the damage has eventually been completely repaired,
