AN IMPORTANT stretch of land has been given to the Lichfield and Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust.
This will allow it to restore a further length of the Lichfield Canal, Janet Friend reports.
Staffordshire County Council has agreed to hand over a 670m stretch of land to the trust that will eventually contain three locks and a culvert to further restore the waterway.

This will then take the canal under Birmingham Road island which the county council built during the construction of the Lichfield Southern Bypass, it is told.
It all now depends on finances and eventually the canal will go over the Toll Road Bridge, in the viaduct built when the bypass was constructed. (Pictured.}
