Unregistered Thames boat owners clobbered
UNREGISTERED boat owners on the Thames are being clobbered by the Environment Agency.
With 125 unregistered boats discovered in last December's purge.
This number of registered boats was discovered during spot checks in, it is told, Penton Hook Marina in Chertsey last December, but only just coming to court.
Ignored all warnings
The owners ignored all warnings to register their boats so were brought up before Staines Magistrates' Court where they were fined for costs, compensation and victim surcharge after being given warnings.
One boater was landed with over £2,300 in costs, compensation and victim surcharge.
Colin Chiverton from the agency told he was pleased by the outcome and that it sends a clear warning to all unregistered boat owners.
With boaters warned that the enfoforcement officers are also out this month checking resgistrations.
