Fallen tree stops broad beams on Leicester Section

A NOTICE from Canal & River Trust tells that part of the Leicester Section is blocked for broad beams.

Though the Leicester Section of the Grand Union Canal is a narrow canal, reports Keith Gudgin.

A fallen tree has caused the problem between the East Portal of Husband Bosworth Tunnel and Honey Pot Farm Bridge 46 though this does not affect narrowboats.

Narrowboats can proceed

It being told that narrowboats can proceed with care but the trust strongly advise that wide beam boats wait until the tree has been completely cleared.

Being a narrow canal with narrow locks at both ends, together with narrow bridges, broad beams have no access.

The site has been assessed and decided that the situation requires specialist equipment for removal of the tree.
