Swing bridge operation does not bother boaters
THERE was quite an ado about the swinging of a bridge in Northwich on the Weaver.
For it it not often that Hayhurst Swing Bridge swings open but it did today, Janet Friend reports.
It was at 9.30 this morning, Thursday, that the traffic over the bridge was halted and the bridge started to swing open, that usually takes five minutes.
Nearer half an hour
But alas the whole procedure took nearer half an hour to complete its swings open then closed, but Canal & River Trust had warned of this, though not understood why undertaken at such a busy time for traffic using the bridge.
What was expected is not known, but the fire people, the police and the council were made aware.
This had no effect on boaters whatsoever as even when closed, as can be seen from the photograph, there is plenty of headroom for most boats.
