Putting it right!
Can I correct this news item please, as both a boater and Fly regular? Writes Dave Martin.
The new landlord has not closed the car park. He has simply discontinued the use of the camera monitoring system.
Several months ago, the pub company that owns the lease arranged for a Britannia Parking to instal a camera controlled monitoring system on the car park.
Filled by non customers
The reason was that the car park was frequently filled by cars belonging to walkers, boaters and village visitors who were not pub customers. So as a customer, you entered your car registration into the device on the bar.
Unfortunately it would seem the system was flawed, in that many penalty notices were wrongly issued (I got two!). However, the landlord (now retired) arranged for all incorrect penalties to be cancelled when they were reported to him. The whole system caused much aggravation, and resulted in people not using the pub.
