The Leeds & Liverpool joins the others with lack of water
THERE had been no low pound stoppages reported on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal this 'season', though the dry weather has caused others to close.
But now comes a stoppage notice telling that the Bank Newton Flight is closed 'due to water resources', Keith Gudgin reports.
Meaning it joins the other northern waterways such as the Rochdale and Huddersfield Narrow that all too often have lack of water problems closing the waterways.
The Leeds & Liverpool has done rather well concerning such stoppages for there have been none reported so far this year, unlike the other two navigations that are plagued with low water stoppages.
The flight was closed yesterday, Sunday, and will remain so until water is available.
Stewponey Wharf
Many of the lack of water stoppages are caused by leakage, and there is another in the making at Stewponey Wharf on the Staffs & Worcs, near Kinver.
Lee Connelly sending the photograph whilst he was walking along the canal, he remarking that there appears to be a leak at Stewponey Wharf and that it does look pretty severe.
