Large fire closed canal

A LARGE fire by Leighton Lock 27 on the Grand Union Canal closed the waterway yesterday, Friday.

This was at Leighton Pump Station, Keith Gudgin reports.

Both the fire brigade and police were on site at the time until the blaze was eventually doused.

Closed all day

This meant the navigation was closed all day, but today everything is secured and the navigation reopened on Saturday morning.

The Canal & River Trust put the reason down to 'vandalism'.
