Don't seem to be in a hurry
THERE does not seem to be any hurry in completing the stoppage of the leak at Bollington on the Macclesfield Canal, reports Keith Gudgin.
As yesterday, Wednesday, information from Canal & River Trust about the day's work was sent to boaters at 4pm and boater Graham Batney tells us they did not really start until 10am—a six hour day!
The leak is between Sugar Lane Bridge 26 and Kerridge Road Bridge 27.
Second time
This was the second time this leak had occurred, it first starting to leak on Tuesday the 18th with clay installed to stop it, but this was not successful it leaking again over the past few days.
We are told specialist dam contractors have been onsite to instal dams around the area affected by the leak. then the area between the bridges will be drained .
Once the area is drained engineers will assess the leak and determine the necessary repairs.
The trust maintain that 'Our teams are doing everything possible to re-open the canal as soon as possible'. With a six hour working day?
