IT WILL be days before the site of the crashed lorry at Bridge 104 on the Kennet & Avon Canal will be open for navigation.

LorryCanalLifting equipment and barges are on their way to the site to clear all the debris—including tons of carrotsand are expected to arrive tomorrow, Saturday.

Further hazards

Further hazards that contractors will have to overcome are oil and diesel saturated material next to and in the water, as well as very large pieces of the damaged bridge to remove.

It is anticipated this taking three to four days to undertake.

There is also the added risk of pollution and bank destabilisation caused by the heavy lorry sliding down the bank.

The lorry however has already been removed.
